Would You Like to Combine Your Child's Abstract Painting and "Nobody Come In" Handwritten Note Into a Handmade Custom Rug?
Today we would like to show you a few ideas of what your custom rug could look like if you wanted to combine an abstract drawing or painting that your child made with a handwritten note.
We always love to celebrate the children's (very) own personality and their way of drawing and writing. By changing colours, shapes, text placement and background layout you can create all possible rug options.
These are our ideas on how to combine a drawing and a text on a rug.
These examples show the rug rendering in handknotted technique, using wool and a knot count of 150 knots per square inch.
Design Idea #1
Taking the colourful part of the drawing as it is, plus its outline as the irregular shape of the rug. Then adding the handwritten "No bodi com in" text, just as the child wrote it, on top of it.
Design Idea #2
Changing the colours of the original design to fit any colour palette that you like or that match the room. The outline of the drawing is still the irregular shape of the rug and the "warning" text is the same. Only the colours change.
Design Idea #3
Here the rug is square and the background is the original design all over. We could have selected only a few parts of the design or created a repetition pattern too.
Design Idea #4
Now we show you how it could look like if you took the handwriting as the design, but with the colours of the original drawing. This creates a very modern design that is clean and keeps the very personal handwriting style and the colours the child had chosen.
Design Idea #5
Let's go back to the original design and shape, but change the colours to two softer palettes and also reduced to half in number for the next two suggestions. Reducing the number of colours reduces the time we need to prepare all the yarn dyes and dyeing the wool or chosen material.

Design Idea #7
And of course, we can always be more conventional and simply have a rectangular rug, with the original colours of the design and the text on top and bottom of the rug. The background here is a soft light blue.
As always, we look forward to hearing your ideas and preparing design layouts for your very own creations. Make sure to check our other design inspirations!
